The Importance of Preventive Care

You can help your pet maintain excellent long-term physical health with wellness exams.

Combined with regular vaccinations, parasite prevention and proper diet, these routine examinations include regular physical checkups to ensure your pet gets the best chance at great lifelong health.

Bring your pet in for a regular vet checkup in Murfreesboro. We can prevent many health issues from developing, or detect them early when they can be treated most effectively - and affordably.

What to Expect During Your Pet's Physical

During your pet's checkup, they'll receive a thorough physical examination so the vet can get a complete picture of his or her overall health. The exam will include these elements:

General Condition

Did you know your pet's general demeanor and physical condition can provide clues to their general health? Their level of alertness, weight in proportion to their size, and how they stand and walk are all important indicators of overall health.

Coat & Skin

The vet will inspect your pet's coat and skin for any signs of problems, including lumps, bumps, abnormal hair loss, shedding, dandruff, or excessive oiliness or dryness.

Face & Head

We'll examine your pet's nose, eyes, and ears for discharge or abnormalities.

The vet will also check the mouth for signs of oral health issues, such as gum disease or plaque buildup.

Internal Health

Blood pressure, pulse, heart rhythm and rate are all vitally important to your pet's heart health.

These will be tested to ensure they're in the normal range, and we'll examine the lungs to look for evidence of abnormal breathing.

Since lymph nodes often become swollen or painful with many health conditions, the vet will also examine these, along with the bladder, liver, stomach, spleen, kidneys, and intestines to make sure they all feel normal. Any signs of discomfort from your pet will be further assessed.

Puppies & Kittens

To get off to a healthy start, kittens and puppies need attentive medical care within their first few weeks of life.

Your new best friend will receive a complete physical examination, all the immunizations they need, and deworming medication. They will also be tested for intestinal parasites, and you'll receive a puppy or kitten kit full of educational materials and samples to help you care for the newest member of your family.

If you have any questions or concerns about caring for your new pet, please be sure to contact us, either during appointments or between visits.

After your pet's initial appointment, you'll need to visit periodically for his or her required booster shots

Seniors

Recent advances in veterinary medical knowledge and care, in addition to better nutrition and newer therapies, have senior pets living longer than ever.

As your pet ages, regularly scheduled exams become increasingly imperative to ensure their ongoing health and longevity.

Along with the routine wellness procedures included in all pet exams, we provide special attention to potential age-related conditions your senior pet may have, such as decreased vision or arthritis. The vet may sometimes recommend additional laboratory tests to provide more information regarding your pet's overall health.

Microchipping

A microchip can increase the chances that your pet will be found if he or she is ever lost. Microchip implantation is a pain-free procedure, and we will register the chip for you at no extra cost.
